Best apple pie

This recipe is a version of the first place winner in the Connecticut Two-crusted Pie final. The original used butter flavored shortening for the crust, instead of butter, and it only called for vegetable oil, instead of sunflower oil.

Basic apple sauce

Apple sauce is simple to prepare. This particular recipe with its pinch of salt and goes very well with roasted meats, roasted pork in particular.

It is equally good with some cold meats as this apple sauce can also be served cold.
