Gyoza

Description

Gyoza seems like a complicated appetizer, but with ready-made wonton wrappers, they’re easy to make. Plus, they’re very delicious.

Ingredients

1⁄2 c onion (chopped)
1⁄2 c carrot (shredded)
2 c cabbage (shredded)
  water
36 wrappers (gyoza skins or wonton wrappers)

Instructions

  1. Heat the sesame oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the onion, carrot and cabbage and sauté, stirring occasionally, for a few minutes.
  2. Set the vegetable mixture aside and let it cool slightly.
  3. Now add about 1 tablespoon of the mixture to the middle of each wonton wrapper. Fold it over, moisten your fingers with water and seal it with your fingers.
  4. Preheat the vegetable oil in a large non-stick frying pan at medium high heat.
  5. Add the gyoza and cook for approximately 1 minute on each side. Then add 1/4 cup of water, place a lid on the pan and cook until the water evaporates.

Notes

If you want softer vegetables, add a 1/2 cup of water or so and put a lid on your pan, continuing to cook until desired tenderness.

You’ll need some water on hand for sautéing the vegetables to moisten the wrappers and for cooking the wrappers.

Gyoza dipping sauce is easy to make and all it takes is two ingredients. Serve with homemade gyoza for a delicious appetizer that’s sure to please. Just mix 1/2 cup soy sauce with 1/4 cup rice vinegar and serve in a small bowl by the side. Some like it as is, some like it warm.
