Hot apple cider punch with Calvados

Pour this warming drink into mugs and enjoy after a walk in the cold winter air. One of many drinks to warm up in the chilly months.

4 clove (whole, in spice bag)
3 allspice (3 berries, in spice bag)
1⁄4 t nutmeg (grated)
1⁄2 apple (tart apple, thinly sliced)

  1. In a large saucepan, heat the apple cider, or apple juice, until hot but not yet boiling.
  2. Add sugar, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, apple slices and spice bag
  3. Simmer for about 5-10 minutes. Then stir in the Calvados.
  4. Remove the spice bag and cinnamon pieces before serving.

If you love the cinnamon flavor, add a second cinnamon stick.

Cider is low alcohol but you can easily make an alcohol free version substituting apple cider with apple juice.

Why not try a pear cider, or pear juice, spiced drink? Follow the recipe substituting apple ingredients with their pear equivalents.
