Janssons Frestelse


A classic Sweedish dish that's hearty and rustic. 


2 onion (peeled and sliced)
3 T butter (softened)
1⁄4 c milk


  1. Rinse the potatoes of starch.
  2. Mix the anchovie water with cream, milk and some salt.
  3. In a buttered form place half the potatoes with the onions and anchovies on top, covering with the other half of potatoes.
  4. Pour the liquid evenely on top, cover with breadcrumbs and dabs of butter.
  5. Bake at 200 degrees C for 45 minutes or until golden brown.
