Sloe gin

Sloe gin has an interesting color and flavor. It is sweeter and more aromatic than ordinary gin. It is very easy to make.

Ingredients

1 lb sugar
1 gal gin
1 gal sloe (washed)

Instructions

  1. Crush the sloe fruit in a bowl, remove the stones. Add the sugar mixing well. Pour into a sterile jar with an airtight lid.
  2. Add the gin and seal. Allow to stand in a cool dark place for 6-8 weeks, shaking the every day for the first week and a couple of times a week from then on.
  3. Strain and bottle.

Notes

Sloes are a fruit from the blackthorn tree. You should be able to purchase sloes at a specialty store.

If you don't have sloes, try wild damson plums.
