Calcium challenge

Each day, keep a tally of the mg of calcium consumed beside each family member’s name. The recommended mg for age and gender are found at the top of the chart.

Remember, your body needs Vitamin D to absorb calcium. You can get Vitamin D from the sun, fortified milk, egg yolks, saltwater fish, dry shiitake mushrooms.

Each day add a “Daily Challenge” to encourage family members to try something new or do something they don’t always do.

Some examples you can use:

  • Drink a plain glass of milk
  • Try a calcium-rich vegetable (ex. spinach, kale)
  • Drink milk instead of soda pop

The Daily Challenge can be the same for all members or each member can have a unique one.

At the end of the week, reward yourselves for good performance. Enjoy a special outing or anything else the family agrees upon.

And then, post your tips and comments.

Here’s how your form might look after filling out one day:

It is unbelievable something like this can happen in countries where there is plenty of food, but it is true. One of my friends had cramps, muscle pain, and particularly back pain for years. She was made to lose weight and she had other treatments until doctors discovered it was lack of calcium and vitamin D. She cannot eat beef, cows milk or dairy made products from cow's milk, and she does not like fish, so she was not getting enough.

Because of her allergies and her personal taste, she needs a supplement. She was prescribed several different ones and other treatments, but there were side effects.. The thing that seems to work better is a simple multi-vitamin supplement and an effort on her side to add non cow's milk dairy products to her diet.
