Pinot Noir

What type of wine is Pinot Noir?

From: Luke

Pinot Noir is a type of red grape, it is the main grape grown in Burgundy and the grape variety at the heart of the great Burgundy wines.

Pinot noir is now grown in many other parts of the world, and the wines made it often take its name, especially in the "new" wine countries. It is a modern trend to name the wines after the grape they are made of rather than the region the grapes came from. Partly because many wine makers get grapes from several sources, not only their vineyards, and blending grapes from different regions has produced some extraordinary wines, and it allows for wines more with more consistent characteristics year after year.
