Italian sausage meatballs

Description

Serve Italian sausage meatballs with your favorite pasta. It feels Italians have the thousand and one flavors for sausage meat, try different ones and you will be surprised. Fennel flavored sausage is one of our favorites.

Ingredients

1 pk
Italian flavored sausages (one 16 oz package)
1⁄4 c
baking mix
1 c
cheese (shredded, Parmesan is best)
1⁄4 c
onion (finely chopped)
1⁄4 c
celery (finely chopped)
1⁄2 c
apple (peeled and finely chopped)
1 t
pepper
1 clv
garlic (minced, optional)
   
salt (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375° F (190° C).
  2. Combine all ingredients in mixing bowl, using your hands mix together. Form into 1" (2.5 cm) in diameter balls and place onto ungreased baking sheet.
  3. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  4. Remove from oven. Allow to cool for at least 5 minutes. Transfer to serving dish.

Notes

You could serve them with pasta, but these meatballs go well with simple rice and tomato sauce on the side.

Apart from trying other types of sausage meat, flavor the tomato with basil, oregano or herbs complementary to the spices in the sausage meat. This recipe does not need not taste the same any time you prepare it.
