Sweet scones
American twist to a traditional English recipe. Serve accompanied with butter, jam, and whipped cream.
Instructions
Preheat oven to 475°F.
Combine the flour, a pinch of salt, 1/3 cup sugar and baking powder in a large bowl. Make a well in the center of it. Beat 3 eggs with the milk and pour it all at once into the well in the center of the dry mixture.
Form a soft dough and turn out onto a floured surface. Knead lightly until it can hold the shape of a ball.
Roll out to 1 inch thickness, cut into circles. brush the rounds with the glaze egg mixture, dip into the sugar.
Bake for 10 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
This recipe for scones makes the traditional English cakes sweeter by covering them in a sweet glaze and dipping them in sugar before going into the oven.
Use 1 egg beaten with a pinch of salt for the glaze. Bet in a little milk to make the egg go futher, if necessary. If doing a large batch. If doing a large batch, add more eggs as necessary.
